From July 11th to 13th, the 2023 Summer Camp for Outstanding Students at the School of Physical Science and Technology of Southwest Jiaotong University was successfully held on the Jiuli campus. The summer camp included the opening ceremony, introductory academic lectures, research team presentations, laboratory and campus tours, camper presentations, and face-to-face interactions between students and faculty. After a preliminary selection process, a total of 26 outstanding students participated in this summer camp.
On the morning of July 11th, the opening ceremony of the summer camp and the introductory academic lecture were held in Room 4104 of the Yifu Building on the Jiuli campus. Professor Jia Huanyu, Vice Dean (in charge of the work) of the school, Associate Professor Zhou Tao, Assistant to the Dean, Professor Luo Lin, Associate Professor Zhu Fengrong, Associate Professor Cheng Youfeng, Wang Jingya, a teacher from the Office of Graduate Education and Teaching, and Zhou Ling, a graduate student counselor, attended the ceremony. The opening ceremony was hosted by Teacher Yang Haojian.
First, Professor Jia Huanyu delivered a speech at the opening ceremony. He introduced the rich history of Southwest Jiaotong University and the current enrollment situation. He expressed high hopes for the campers and wished them success in this activity. He encouraged the campers to learn with a spirit of inquiry and interact with each other in a spirit of mutual assistance. He then officially declared the summer camp open, and students and teachers took a group photo in front of the university's iconic building, capturing beautiful memories of the camp.
Zhou Tao provided comprehensive explanations about the research directions, enrollment situation, training plans, employment prospects, and scholarship policies for graduate students in the school. He expressed the hope that the campers would experience the charm of physics learning in the School of Physics and the joy of academic research collaboration during the summer camp.
Professors Luo Lin, Zhu Fengrong, and Cheng Youfeng gave introductory academic lectures titled "Research on Planar Wave Ultrasound Imaging Technology Based on Deep Learning," "Introduction to the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory Project: LHAASO," and "Research on Structural Reuse Antennas and Arrays in 6G-V2X Applications," respectively. They also introduced the current status and future plans of their respective research teams, allowing campers to gain insights into the latest developments in various research directions within a conducive academic atmosphere.
After the conclusion of the opening ceremony, the 2023 Summer Camp for Outstanding Students immediately commenced. After two days of camp activities, all campers successfully completed the comprehensive assessments with outstanding overall qualities and a good spirit. Eight campers were recognized as outstanding campers of the summer camp.
The organization of the summer camp is of great significance for enhancing our university's reputation among outstanding students and improving the quality of graduate student sources in our school. It also helps students broaden their horizons, gain knowledge, and make rational plans for their future research studies. Amidst the enthusiastic applause of the outstanding students, the 2023 Summer Camp for Outstanding Students at the School of Physical Science and Technology came to a successful conclusion.
