To enhance the ideological and educational role of the opening ceremony and further establish a comprehensive "Great Ideological" education system, the School of Physical Science and Technology held the opening ceremony for the Class of 2023 undergraduates on the morning of September 24th in the No. 1 Lecture Hall of the Xipu Campus Library. Present at the ceremony were Liu Yu, the Secretary of the School's Party Committee, Jia Huanyu, Vice Dean (presiding over the work), Guo Jian, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Vice Dean, Wei Zhenxing, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Li Xiangqiang, Li Jinlong, national talent Liu Yu, Party Committee member and Secretary of the Applied Physics Department Liu Qijun, Party Committee member and Assistant to the Dean Chen Xi, Party Committee member and Director of the Applied Physics Department Ni Yuxiang, Assistant to the Dean Cheng Jun, Zhou Tao, Director of the Department of Electronic Information Science and Technology Zhang Jianqiong, heads of various administrative offices, all Class of 2023 undergraduate class advisors, counselors, peer mentors, and all Class of 2023 undergraduate students.
"With the crispness of autumn, it's a perfect time for studying, and the wave is right upon us," said Jia Huanyu, Vice Dean (presiding over the work), extending heartfelt congratulations and a warm welcome to all Class of 2023 undergraduate students. He expressed that nurturing the talents that are a gift to the world is our privilege, and nurturing those talents to reach their potential is the responsibility of the School. He offered earnest hopes to the students on how to become proficient "physicists": first, have a clear goal and aim high; second, stay grounded and immerse in learning; third, be unwavering and always spirited.
Representing the national talent and acting as a class advisor, Liu Yu, encouraged the students to learn independently and collaborate effectively. He emphasized the importance of physical exercise and maintaining physical and mental health while studying, wishing the students success in scaling new heights during their learning journey. The beginning of university life is a fresh start, and students are encouraged to write new chapters, confident that under the careful guidance of the faculty, the Class of 2023 will make significant progress and grow step by step.
Representing the senior students, Yu Zhenghao shared his own experiences of growth at the School of Physics and the lessons he learned. As it was his birthday that day, he made a birthday wish, hoping that the new students would find answers to whatever they set out to achieve, moving towards their goals with determination and unwavering commitment.
New student representative Ding Yanhao, based on his observations since starting university, emphasized the need to be diligent and to maintain the most resolute attitude towards success. He urged all new students to embrace the right worldview and values, set ambitious goals and directions, focus on personal comprehensive development, and strive to become well-rounded individuals contributing to socialist construction and succession.
Under the guidance of senior student representative Yu Zhenghao, all new students stood up, raised their right fists, and recited the pledge in unison: "I pledge to make the most of my youth, my prime, and my era!" Despite their youthful appearance, the students displayed remarkable vigor and determination. They pledged to carry forward the "Strive for truth, Dare to be the first" spirit of Southwest Jiaotong University and the "Integrate theory with practice" spirit of physics. This embodies not only the spirit of physicists but also the courage of the youth of the new era!
The recitation of "Listening to the World's Song in the Symbols of Physics" by Qiu Tianyao from Class 6 of Applied Physics in 2022, recited by Li Muqi and Pang Jiaqi from the Class of 2023, resonated with melodious strength. They recited "In praise of youth: Integrating theory with practice" in the name of youth, welcoming their youth with the flag of recitation. They unleashed the dreams of their youth, raised the sails of youth, and ardently integrated theory with practice.
The growth and success of students cannot be separated from the support of class advisors. They have put in relentless efforts in helping students address academic challenges, enhance their academic abilities, and develop comprehensive qualities. This year, the School has appointed 12 class advisors who are passionate about students, dedicated, academically strong, and experienced in talent development. They were presented with letters of appointment by the Secretary of the School's Party Committee, Liu Yu. Additionally, 11 peer mentors were selected to participate in peer education to guide the growth of the Class of 2023. They were presented with letters of appointment by Guo Jian, Deputy Secretary of the School's Party Committee. These bright letters of appointment signify not only honor but also a significant responsibility. In their future studies and work, the School will further establish a comprehensive "Great Ideological" education system and create a strong educational atmosphere throughout the entire process.
Youth should not fear the passage of time, as there is still glory on the horizon. The road to a promising future is unfolding beneath everyone's feet. It is hoped that the Class of 2023 students will become who they aspire to be and write a brilliant chapter unique to physicists at Southwest Jiaotong University.
