On the morning of October 21, 2023, the Party Secretary of the School of Physical Science and Technology, Mr. Liu Yu, delivered the first ideological and political lecture to the 2023 freshmen at room X2218 in the Xipu Campus. The lecture's theme was "Strengthening Ideals and Beliefs to Become Cornerstones of the New Era." Also present at the event were the Deputy Secretary and Vice Dean of the School of Physical Science and Technology, Mr. Guo Jian, the Secretary of the Youth League Committee of the school, Mr. Yong Teng, academic advisors, and all the 2023 freshmen. The lecture was hosted by Mr. Yang Haojian, the academic advisor for the 2023 class.
The lecture covered four main aspects: "The Spirit of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China," "Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era," "The Spirit of the 15th Party Congress of the University, and What the School of Physics Should Do," and "Remaining Committed to One's Ideals, Becoming Cultivated and Responsible New Generation Youth." During the lecture, Secretary Liu Yu emphasized the profound significance of studying, promoting, and implementing the spirit of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China. He began by summarizing the opening of the 19th National Congress and then proceeded to elucidate the rich content and core principles of the 19th Party Congress's spirit, integrating it with the content from articles such as "Pioneering Marxism in the New Era of Chinese Characteristic Socialism."
Secretary Liu Yu also emphasized the section titled "Implementing the Strategy for the Revitalization of Education and Strengthening Talent Support for Modernization" with a focus on the School of Physical Science and Technology's own development plan. He stressed the importance of resolutely implementing the strategy for the revitalization of education and noted that innovation is the primary driver of development, and talents are the foremost resource for supporting that development. The essence of innovation-driven development is talent-driven. Secretary Liu Yu highlighted key terms from the report such as "new national system," "national strategic scientific and technological strength," and analyzed the continuous increase in China's R&D investment intensity and its rise in high-end manufacturing. He urged the undergraduate freshmen to set life goals scientifically, plan their life path correctly, continuously improve their innovative awareness and capabilities, and integrate their personal ideals into the great journey of national rejuvenation, contributing their wisdom and strength to building a strong nation in science and technology.
Following this, Secretary Liu Yu explained the "Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era" through numerical expressions such as the "Fourteen Upholds," "Ten Clarity Guidelines," "Thirteen Aspects," "Two Combines," and "Six Must Upholds." He highlighted that Xi Jinping Thought represents the latest theoretical achievement of the Chinese Communist Party in upholding and developing Marxism in the new era and emphasized the importance of continually learning and understanding it. He advised the students to draw scientific wisdom and theoretical strength from it, combining their own studies and the spirit of the 15th Party Congress of the University to contribute to the revitalization and development of the school.
Furthermore, Secretary Liu Yu introduced the relevant content of the University's 15th Party Congress and shared the "basic principles for running and managing the university" and the "development goals of the university" with the students. He explained the overall work ideas and goals for implementing the School of Physical Science and Technology's "14th Five-Year Plan" and outlined the school's characteristic practices and achievements in educational and teaching reform. He affirmed the school's commitment to its initial aspirations, leveraging available resources to support students' growth. Lastly, Secretary Liu Yu, with the theme "Becoming New Era Youth with Ideals, a Willingness to Take Responsibility, Diligence, and Achievements," engaged with the new students on topics such as cultivating character, physical and mental health, class and learning atmosphere, and employment and further education after graduation. The lecture provided a humorous yet insightful explanation, and the students gained a clear understanding of the importance of developing skills and qualities. Many expressed their determination to use their perseverance and hard work to write a youth of dedication, not letting down the new era and taking on the important task of national rejuvenation. The rich and focused content of this lecture resonated strongly with the majority of the new students, and class organizations will hold further discussions and seminars based on the content and spirits conveyed by Secretary Liu Yu.
