On November 30th, the University held a ceremony to appoint Cao Zhen, the academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, at the Xipu campus. Cao Zhen, a researcher at the Institute of High Energy Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, director of the Cosmic Ray Research Center of Tianfu New Area, and academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, was appointed as a consultant professor at Southwest Jiaotong University. Yu Minming, the secretary of the party committee, and He Chuan, the vice president and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, attended the appointment ceremony. After the appointment ceremony, the two sides had discussions on discipline construction, scientific research, and personnel training.
Yu Minming warmly welcomed Academician Cao Zhen’s joining the University, expressed sincere thanks to Academician Cao's team for their support and help to the school, and briefly introduced the school’s development process and educational achievements. Yu Minming pointed out that engineering must rely on science, and the school has always attached great importance to the development of physics disciplines, adhered to the integration of science and engineering, actively participated in the construction of major scientific and technological and scientific projects in the national basic and applied research fields, and achieved a series of research results. Especially under the guidance and strong support of Academician Cao, as a deep cooperation unit of the LHAASO project, the university has cultivated a group of young talents, providing solid support for the university to accelerate the construction of strategic scientific and technological strength. It is hoped that Academician Cao and his team will give more guidance and help to the university's physics discipline construction, scientific research, and high-level personnel training, and believe that both parties will continue to make new breakthroughs in related research fields and contribute new and greater strength to the realization of national high-level scientific and technological self-reliance and self-improvement.
Cao Zhen said that Southwest Jiaotong University is a very remarkable university, and it is very honored to have such an opportunity to become a member of the university. For a long time, in the research of cosmic rays, the team has a long history of cooperation with Southwest Jiaotong University. Now, the influence of LHAASO is increasing internationally. As the only university unit in the LHAASO cooperative unit that jointly builds a cosmic ray physics joint laboratory with the Institute of High Energy Physics, the university's team has also made many contributions. I hope that on the basis of a long-term history of cooperation, the university can play a more important role in future project practice, further strengthen communication and exchanges, deepen innovative cooperation, and work together to occupy the international leading position in this field. At the appointment ceremony, Yu Minming presented Cao Zhen with a letter of appointment and wore the university badge. Representatives of the Talent Office, Personnel Department, Research Institute, Graduate School, and the Party and Government Team of the School of Physics and related expert teachers attended the symposium.
