To implement the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and strengthen education on the national identity of the Chinese people, Southwest Jiaotong University held a speech contest on the theme of “Learning from the 20th National Congress, Working Together to Achieve the Chinese Dream” on the afternoon of April 20th. The event was attended by nearly 100 people, including Wang Zheng, member of the school's Party Committee and Minister of the United Front Work Department, Ren Lili, Deputy Minister of the United Front Work Department, Liu Yu, Party Secretary of the School of physical Science and Technology, and Wei Zhenxing, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, as well as teachers from relevant schools and universities, contest participants, and their family and friends.
In his speech, Wang Zheng shared the touching story of “Uncle Kurban Goes to Beijing” In 2017, General Secretary Xi Jinping wrote a letter of encouragement to the descendants of Uncle Kurban, urging them to continue to be models of loving the Party, loving the country, and loving the Chinese nation, just like Uncle Kurban did. Wang Zheng stated that this speech contest was helpful in leading the main melody of solidifying the national identity of the Chinese people among students of all ethnicities in the school. He hopes that students can practice the core socialist values, become defenders, practitioners, and contributors of national unity and progress, and fully demonstrate the style and responsibility of Jiaotong University students in the new era.
During the contest, students from various ethnic groups told stories such as “The Secretary of Liangshan Prefecture Helps Local school Students Solve Their Tuition Problems” “Making Friends with a New Yi Classmate” “The Principal of a Small Border City School in Dandong Inspires Growth with Love” “Helping Children Paired with 'Cloud Teaching' Learn” and “The Transformation of Transportation in Enshi Rural Areas” The speeches, which were delivered eloquently or passionately, combined with innovative performances such as “Crossing Time and Space Dialogue” and “Scenario Drama” won rounds of applause from the audience. The sincere emotions of loving the Party, loving the country, and loving socialism contained in these stories, as well as the youthful vigor and vitality of the students, infected every audience member present, and the event was filled with a warm, united, and progressive atmosphere.
Finally, Cui Xiana, a student from the School of Earth Sciences and Environmental Engineering, won first prize; Huang Xingyue from the School of Mechanical Engineering and Tang Jingxuan from the School of Materials Science and Engineering won second prizes. Wang Xuan from the School of physical Science and Technology, Chizi Keko from the School of Civil Engineering, and Li Jiamu from the School of physical science and Technology won third prizes.
In the interactive session, all the audience participated in a quiz on the Party's national theory and national policies, and the scene was full of laughter and joy.
It is reported that the event was organized by the United Front Work Department, the Party Committee Student Affairs Office, and the Youth League Committee of the school, and was hosted by the School of physical Science and Technology. This event is one of the excellent projects for education on solidifying the national identity of the Chinese people in the school.
