On the afternoon of June 17th, the 2023 graduation ceremony and degree awarding ceremony for students of the School of Physical Science and Technology were held in the third-floor lecture hall of the cafeteria of Xipu Campus. Liu Yu, the secretary of the school party committee, Jia Huanyu, the vice dean (in charge of work), Xu Yuhong, the director of the professor committee and national talent, Liu Yu, a national talent, Guo Jian, the deputy secretary of the school party committee and vice dean, Li Xiangqiang, Li Jinlong, the deputy deans, Liu Qijun, the secretary of the Department of Applied Physics, class teacher representatives, department heads, all counselors of the Student Affairs Office, and parent representatives attended the ceremony. The ceremony was presided over by Chen Xi, a member of the school party committee and assistant dean.
The graduation ceremony began with the solemn national anthem. Liu Yu, on behalf of all teachers, students, and staff of the school, warmly congratulated the graduates on their successful completion of their studies. He said that during the years of studying at the School of Physical Science and Technology, the 2023 graduates have experienced the country's takeoff and national development, participated in the school's rapid development, faced unprecedented challenges and growth, and achieved fruitful results. At the farewell moment, Liu Yu made three earnest requests to the graduates: First, he hoped that the graduates would look up to the stars, aspire to lofty goals, take on heavy responsibilities, blaze new trails, and show their mettle and courage in the places where the country and the people need it most, rooted and sprouted. Second, he hoped that the graduates would be down-to-earth, work hard, and continuously improve their problem-solving abilities, whether they continue to pursue further studies or enter the workforce. Third, he hoped that the graduates would forge ahead, dare to innovate, and strive to realize their life dreams in the journey of building a socialist modernization power. "A physicist for a day, a physicist for life!" Liu Yu wished the graduates a magnificent journey and a bright future ahead, stepping into a new stage of life with their dreams.
Graduate representative Peng Xiyao emotionally recalled the growth she and her classmates had experienced under the guidance of their teachers during their studies at the School of Physical Science and Technology, and talked about their daily interactions during their four years of university life. She said that no matter where they go, she believes that as long as they adhere to the spirit of "studying things to gain knowledge and integrating knowledge with practice" of physicists, they will eventually take root and sprout, and contribute to the development of the School of Physical Science and Technology.
At the farewell moment, the school prepared gifts for each graduate. The graduation gift for this year was designed and carefully selected by teachers and graduating students together, carrying the school's care and blessings, wishing the graduates to wear their dreams and step into a new stage of life. Guo Jian, the deputy secretary, presented the school's gifts to the graduates on stage, including a "happy learning" cultural shirt that embodies the spirit of "studying things to gain knowledge and integrating knowledge with practice" of the School of Physical Science and Technology, a canvas bag with a wide range of uses that encourages students to explore the future, and a set of paper-cut and bookmark sets that symbolize the graduates' eternal and beautiful memories. At the same time, the graduates also presented a gift of blessings to the school, a pair of couplets with the meaning of "grateful for the source, and flowing far and wide", expressing their gratitude to the school and teachers no matter where they go. A painting of pine and cypress trees was also presented, wishing the school prosperity and glory, and peach and plum blossoms all over the world. Liu Qijun and Li Jinlong respectively received the gifts from the graduate representatives, and the school deeply felt the graduates' blessings. After years of study, the award of a degree is the result of the graduates' journey of learning, witnessing their growth, and symbolizing the most precious wealth bestowed upon them by their alma mater. After the review of the degree evaluation committee, a total of 243 bachelor's degrees, 91 master's degrees, and 7 doctoral degrees were awarded to the graduates of the School of Physical Science and Technology. Vice Dean Li Xiangqiang announced the degree awarding decision on stage.
Jia Huanyu, Liu Yu, Xu Yuhong, Liu Yu, Li Xiangqiang, Li Jinlong, and Liu Qijun, these seven teachers, presented the degrees to the graduates one by one. With excitement in their hearts, the graduates welcomed the sacred moment of their academic career under the witness of their teachers. At the moment of turning their tassels, the graduates, with their full knowledge and the school's encouragement and blessings, completed another growth on their life journey. When the familiar Southwest Jiaotong University's song sounded again, at this crossroads where the phoenix flowers blossomed, the graduates of the School of Physical Science and Technology, with the mission of the nation on their shoulders and the school's trust in their hearts, set sail again, breaking through the wind and waves. May their future be bright, and the alma mater looks forward to their frequent return!
