On July 11, the School of Physics and Technology of Southwest Jiaotong University successfully held the 2020 Outstanding College Students Online Summer Camp. The main content of the summer camp includes academic lectures, academic salons, introductions to scientific research teams, and special exchanges among scientific research teams. After preliminary screening and review, a total of 58 outstanding college students participated in this summer camp.
At nine o'clock in the morning, the opening ceremony was successfully carried out on the Tencent conference platform. Numerous teachers from the School of Physics and Technology attended the opening ceremony, including Deputy Dean Li Xiangqiang, Deputy Dean Li Jinlong, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Physics Guo Jian, and Zhu Fengrong, Ni Yuxiang, Liu Haifeng, Liu Qijun, Yang Xinsheng, Wang Yiwen, Wang Bangji, Shang Yuping, Zhang Jianqiong, etc. The opening ceremony was presided over by Men Manzhou, deputy head of the academic work group of the School of Physics and Technology.
First of all, Mr. Guo Jian, deputy secretary of the Party Committee and deputy dean of the School of Physics, welcomed the campers from various universities, and then gave a brief introduction to our School of Physics and Technology in terms of historical development, cultural construction, and scientific achievements. It also elaborated on the college’s complete education system from the aspects of faculty, talent training, and subject research. In addition, he also hopes that campers can cherish the opportunity of this online summer camp, actively communicate with teachers, abide by relevant regulations, and fully demonstrate themselves in this summer camp.
Then, Vice Dean Li Xiangqiang gave a more detailed introduction to the students from the aspects of college profile, scientific research team, enrollment situation and employment prospects. In the online communication with the students, Dean Li also emphasized our school’s strong faculty, advanced experimental equipment and diversified research directions, and then sincerely encourage campers to apply for the School of Physics and Technology of Southwest Jiaotong University.
Subsequently, an overview of the various scientific research teams of the college was displayed. A total of 10 teachers introduced the scientific research of the college in detail, including research institutions, teachers, scientific research projects and results in recent years, as well as talent training and employment prospects. Mr. Zhu Fengrong first introduced the cosmic ray observation experiment and the innovative research of cutting-edge disciplines such as particle astrophysics, atmospheric physics, and solar physics. After that, Mr. Ni Yuxiang introduced nanomaterials and micro Design and research of condensed matter such as nanodevices and new energy materials. Then Mr. Liu Haifeng started from the principle of magnetic confinement fusion, introduced the fusion science research institute and the star simulator to the campers, also explained its significance in plasma research.Subsequently, teacher Liu Qijun introduced the high-pressure science and technology laboratory research platform to the campers from multiple angles. Teacher Yang Xinsheng introduced new energy materials, superconducting physics and computer simulation of magnetic levitation, and the multi-scale structure and performance of advanced materials. Then, based on the impact of key components such as rail transit wheelsets and pantographs on the safety of China's high-speed rail, Mr. Li Jinlong introduced the core projects, research contents and scientific research output of the Optoelectronic Engineering Institute and the Nondestructive Testing Center for the campers. From the perspective of national defense scientific research, Mr. Wang Bangji introduced to campers the technical research on antennas and microwave devices, pulsed power devices, electric energy conversion and control. Then teacher Wang Yiwen introduced the Quantum Optoelectronics Laboratory and its research direction to the campers. Mr. Shang Yuping introduced the campers focusing on forward-looking issues in technologies such as antennas and large arrays, electromagnetic compatibility, and radio wave propagation in complex environments, and radar cross sections. Finally, based on the special background of our school’s rail transit, Mr. Zhang Jianqiong focused on the integration of military and civilian technology and the transformation of scientific and technological achievements as the core purpose. He focused on introducing the electromagnetic environment and electromagnetic compatibility, antenna theory and technology, intelligent detection technology research, etc.
After the opening ceremony, the 2020 Summer Camp for Outstanding College Students officially started. After the teachers introduced the scientific research team, the students had a detailed understanding of all directions of physics research, including cosmic ray physics, relativity and quantum physics, nanomaterials and computational physics, plasma physics, high-pressure physics and new functional material synthesis, superconducting and new energy materials, quantum optoelectronics, optical information processing and ultrasonic nondestructive testing, high-power microwave technology, Electromagnetic field and microwave technology, electromagnetic technology and application.In the afternoon, the special exchange of scientific research team and academic salon activities also deepened the exchanges between campers and the teachers and students of the scientific research team.
At 5 pm, the summer camp closing ceremony was held at the Tencent Conference. Vice Dean Li Xiangqiang expressed his warm congratulations on the successful holding of the summer camp. Then he commented on the performance of the students from the school introduction, team introduction, special learning lectures, style display, etc., and explained the effects of each link in the activity.Deputy Dean Li Xiangqiang praised the students for their performance and once again welcomed them to apply for the School of Physics and Technology of Southwest Jiaotong University.
After one day of summer camp study, all the campers showed excellent comprehensive qualities and a good mental outlook, passed the comprehensive assessment and successfully graduated. Among them, 12 campers including Zhou Guoxiang, Shi Zhongyu, Weng Junhui, Xie Yuzhuang, Shu Weiqian, He Yi, Jiang Nan, Ma Chenjie, Li Liangzhu, Su Yiyu, Dong Zhiyuan, and Li Xinyu were rated as Outstanding College Students Summer Camp 2020 by the School of Physics and Technology of Southwest Jiaotong University. So far, the online summer camp for outstanding college students in 2020 has been successfully completed.
