To deepen the understanding of outstanding undergraduates across the country in various disciplines of our school, promote communication among excellent undergraduates majoring in physics, electronic science and technology from various universities, help outstanding undergraduates enhance their research interests, broaden their academic horizons, build platforms and create opportunities for students to continue their studies and development, the School of Physical Science and Technology of Southwest Jiaotong University will hold the "2023 Summer Academic Camp for Outstanding Undergraduates of School of Physics Science and Technology, Southwest Jiaotong University". We welcome the 2024 undergraduates who are interested in applying for our graduate programs to actively sign up for the camp.
I. Introduction to the School
Southwest Jiaotong University is a research-oriented university directly under the Ministry of Education, which is a national key university under the "Project 211", "Project 985" and "2011 Plan" with a graduate school. It is located in Chengdu, a historic and cultural city and a national center city in China.
The School of Physical Science and Technology of Southwest Jiaotong University has developed from the ordinary physics teaching and research office, the applied physics department, and the college of science since 1948 to the school established in 2006. It has become a school with a certain comprehensive strength that coordinates the development of basic education, scientific research, and discipline construction, integrates science and engineering, and combines basic scientific research with high-tech research and development. The school has an education system that includes undergraduate, master's, and doctoral students. At the undergraduate level, there are two majors: Applied Physics and Electronic Information Science and Technology. At the graduate level, there are two second-level disciplines: Electromagnetic Field and Microwave Technology and Physical Electronics, which belong to the first-level disciplines of Physics and Electronic Science and Technology, respectively. Physics is a doctoral degree authorization unit.
The school has a strong faculty, advanced experimental equipment, diversified research directions, and has trained a large number of scientific and technological talents, who are distributed all over the world. At the same time, the university provides rich scholarships for graduate students, including national scholarships, Yanghua New Talent scholarships, academic scholarships, national student aid, and various special scholarships for graduate students.
Currently, the school has 129 faculty members, including 23 professors (researchers) and 44 associate professors (associate researchers) among the 109 full-time teachers. In recent years, many high-level academic leaders and doctoral graduates have been introduced from domestic and foreign sources. Currently, there are more than 1,400 students of various types in the school.
II. Summer Camp Arrangements

Activity time: July 10, 2023 - July 12, 2023

Schedule:
July 10: Registration of campers, safety and ideological education, and comprehensive testing
July 11: Opening ceremony, academic frontier reports, introduction of scientific research teams and laboratory visits in Jiuli Campus
July 12: Display of camper's style and personal abilities, peer-to-peer exchange of outstanding graduate students, and visits to scientific research teams
III. Application Requirements
Application Conditions
(1) Love the motherland, have good moral character, abide by laws and regulations, physically and mentally healthy, have innovative consciousness and teamwork spirit, and have not been subject to any disciplinary action during their school years;
(2) Full-time undergraduate third-year students (2024 undergraduates);
(3) Students from "Double First-Class" universities, or those majoring in physics, electronic science and technology, and related majors, whose overall ranking in the current undergraduate program is in the top 20% of their grade (if there is no ranking in the same grade, they can provide the ranking in the same class). Those who have obtained or will obtain the qualification for recommended exemption from the graduate school of their university will be given priority consideration.
(4) Good English proficiency, and generally pass the National College English Test Band 4 (with a score of 425 or above).
(5) Applicants with outstanding research abilities may relax the application conditions appropriately. Applicants must submit materials such as scientific research results and published academic papers.
Application Materials
(1) "Application Form for the 2023 Summer Academic Camp for Outstanding Undergraduates of School of Physical Science and Technology, Southwest Jiaotong University" (see Annex 1);
(2) Personal statement (including personal basic information, main learning situation, important scientific research experience, future learning interests and plans, etc.) (see Annex 2);
(3) The transcript of the first five semesters of undergraduate study and a certificate of comprehensive ranking of the grade (with the official seal of the school's academic affairs department or the department where the student is enrolled);
(4) Scanned copies of the student ID card and identity card;
(5) Fill in the "Summer Camp Camper Information Summary Form" (see Annex 3);
(6) Other supporting materials (certificates of awards/research results/published papers, etc.) should be scanned and collected in a PDF file.
Please package the above materials and name them as "Name + School + Summer Camp Application Materials", and send them to swjtuwljw@163.com before June 29.
Note: If the materials provided by campers are not true, their qualifications for participation will be cancelled. The deadline for registration is the receipt of materials.
Application Procedures
(1) Before June 29, 2023, students should log in to the Southwest Jiaotong University Graduate Admissions website (http://yz.swjtu.edu.cn) and click on "Summer Academic Camp" to complete registration.
(2) Before July 3, 2023, the school will confirm the list of camp members and notify the students. Selected students need to confirm whether they will participate before 12:00 on July 5. Those who fail to confirm in time will be regarded as giving up their qualifications.
(3) Applicants can join the "2023 School of Physical Science and Technology Summer Camp" group (QQ group number: 856634223).
IV. Excellent Camper Policy
Recommendation for exemption: Campers who perform well in the summer camp activities and obtain the title of "Outstanding Camper" and obtain the recommended exemption qualifications for graduate students of their university can be directly recommended for admission after completing all the prescribed procedures on the Ministry of Education's "National Recommended Excellent Graduates Information Publicity and Management Service System for Exemption from Entrance Examinations for Graduate Students" (website: http://yz.chsi.com.cn/tm) within the prescribed time (subject to the final notice if there is any change).
Scholarships: "Outstanding campers" who are admitted to our school's exempted graduate students of the 2024 level can receive a first-class academic scholarship.
Assistance for further studies: "Outstanding campers" who have not obtained the "recommended exemption qualification" of their university can participate in the 2024 national postgraduate entrance examination and apply for our school as their first choice under the same conditions, and will be given priority admission.
V. Notes
Campers need to participate in the summer camp activities throughout the event. Those who leave without permission will not be provided with relevant assistance and cannot be evaluated as "Outstanding Campers".
Accommodation can be provided for non-local campers.
The transportation expenses of non-local campers are generally reimbursed for the cost of round-trip hard seat train tickets, second-class high-speed rail tickets, or bus tickets.
