On the morning of July 12, 2023, in accordance with the school's laboratory safety requirements and the need for safety and stability during the summer break, Vice Secretary Guo Jian, in charge of safety at the School of Physical Science and Technology, conducted safety inspections of the various laboratories in the school.
During this safety inspection, the focus was on random safety checks of the High-pressure Science and Technology Laboratory and the High-power Microwave Laboratory at the Jiuli Campus. Key aspects inspected included the implementation of safety operating procedures, safety precautions, the qualification of firefighting equipment, the accessibility of fire exits, and safety concerns in electrical usage and laboratory setups. Based on the inspection results, the situation in the High-power Microwave Laboratory has worsened due to the partial collapse of the exterior roof. Safety risks have not been fully resolved, and it is essential that all laboratories take precautionary measures to prevent any injuries from falling debris.
Considering the recent high-temperature weather and the need to ensure laboratory safety, it is recommended that all laboratories temporarily suspend any experiments related to biochemistry during the summer break. Laboratories should not be accessible during this period. All laboratories should make arrangements for holiday duty shifts, pay close attention to electrical safety and measures to prevent heat-related issues. Strict control and management of all gas cylinders are also advised. The School of Physical Science and Technology will carry out random inspections of safety measures in various laboratories during the summer break.
