On October 29, 2018, the 2018 Teaching Steering Committee meeting of the National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center of Southwest Jiaotong University (Southwest Jiaotong University) was successfully held at the Xipu Campus. Professor Han Zhong from Chongqing University, Professor Sun Jinghua from Harbin Engineering University, Professor Xiang Gang from Sichuan University, Professor Jia Huanyu from Southwest Jiaotong University, and Professor Jiang Xiangdong from Southwest Jiaotong University attended the meeting as members of the Teaching Steering Committee. Professor Zhou Zhongrong, Vice President of Southwest Jiaotong University, Director Zhong Chong of the Asset and Laboratory Management Office, Dean of the School of Physical Science and Technology, Liu Qingxiang,Deputy Dean Li Xiangqiang, Deputy Dean Li Jinlong, Deputy Dean He Jin, Professor Wang Xiqing , Wang Hui, Deputy Director of the center, and directors of various departments and some teachers attended the meeting.

The Establishment Meeting of the Teaching Steering Committee and the Ceremony for the Appointment were hosted by He Yu, Deputy Dean of the School of Physical Science and Technology. Professor Zhou Zhongrong, Vice President of Southwest Jiaotong University, delivered a speech on behalf of Southwest Jiaotong University and read the document decision of Southwest Jiaotong University on the establishment of the “National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center (Southwest Jiaotong University)” and other seven national experimental teaching demonstration centers. Vice President Zhou Zhongrong and Director of the Asset and Laboratory Management Office, Mr. Zhong Chong, issued a letter of appointment to the members of the Teaching Steering Committee.

Subsequently, the first meeting of the Teaching Guidance Committee of the Physics National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center (Southwest Jiaotong University) was held in 2018. The meeting was chaired by Professor Han Zhong, the director of the Teaching Guidance Committee. At the meeting, He Yu, Deputy Director of the Demonstration Center and Deputy Dean of the School of Physical Science and Technology, gave a work report, focusing on the center overview, team building, management model, experimental equipment and environment, experimental teaching concept and teaching orientation, and experimental teaching system. , teaching content, teaching methods and special items. The meeting reviewed and approved the “National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center (Southwest Jiaotong University) Teaching Steering Committee Charter”, “Physical National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center 2017 Annual Report”, “Physical National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center (Southwest Jiaotong University) Documents such as the 2018 Work Plan”.The members present at the meeting affirmed the work of the center and put forward very good guidance , and recommended to strengthen the update and upgrade of some experimental equipment and experimental content, further explore the reform of the experimental teaching system, and enhance the cultivation of students' innovative practice ability , strengthen the construction of the talent team in the experimental teaching demonstration center. At the meeting, Professor Sun Jinghua made a special speech entitled “Setting of Physical Experiment Content in the Background of Professional Certification”. Professor Sun Jinghua analyzed the impact and opportunity brought by the construction of “double first-class” to experimental teaching, deeply interpreted the “innovation”, analyzed the requirements of professional certification for physics experiments in detail, and explained how to improve physics experimental course supports the achievement of graduation requirements for each major with vivid and specific experimental projects as a case.

The convening of this conference pointed out the direction for the connotation development of the National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center of our school, and gave a strong guidance for the continuous improvement of the center. It will help the center to build a more open physical experiment teaching system to comprehensively enhance the undergraduate students’s physical comprehensive literacy, serving the school's first-class discipline construction, will help the center to better play the role of demonstration radiation, and become an experimental base of physical foundation courses with influence in the southwest region and even the whole country.
