In order to cultivate the labor spirit of college students, such as diligence, struggle, innovation, and dedication, and to hone their willpower and character through labor practice, the School of Physical Science and Technology carried out the "Happy Farm" volunteer activity in the planting area on the east side of the fourth teaching building in May 2023.
At the beginning of the activity, the volunteers gathered and went to the planting area with tools, and learned the usage methods and plant planting methods in advance. During the activity, the volunteers first turned over the new soil in the land, and removed stones and garbage that were not conducive to plant growth. Then they carried out crop planting, digging pits, planting seedlings, leveling the soil, compacting it, and watering. Finally, under the guidance of the staff, the volunteers orderly returned the tools to the tool collection point, and the preliminary planting work of the "Happy Farm" officially came to an end.
After an afternoon of labor, the students fully experienced the atmosphere of farm life, felt the hardship and difficulty of labor, learned relevant knowledge about planting crops and rural life, and at the same time planted healthy and green plants. In the future, members of the School of Physical Science and Technology will continue to demonstrate the charm of Southwest Jiaotong University with practical actions, uphold the volunteer principles of "dedication, friendship, mutual assistance, and progress," improve themselves, and contribute to building a better Jiaotong University campus.
