Recently, the Sichuan Provincial Department of Science and Technology announced the list of the first batch of provincial-level science and technology program projects for 2024. Associate Professor Liu Haifeng from the Fusion Science Research Institute of our school successfully obtained the approval for the Sichuan Province Outstanding Young Scientist Fund project titled "Physical Research on Magnetic Topological Structure Optimization in Quasi-Symmetric Stellarators."

The Sichuan Province Natural Science Fund project aims to produce a number of breakthrough research results, cultivate a group of innovative outstanding young scientific and technological talents in Sichuan Province, and foster an excellent innovative research community in Sichuan Province through project implementation. This year, a total of 2051 projects were funded across Sichuan Province under the Natural Science Fund program, including 70 projects under the Outstanding Young Scientist Fund.

Liu Haifeng, an associate professor and doctoral supervisor, holds a Ph.D. from the Southwest Institute of Nuclear Physics in the nuclear industry and conducted postdoctoral research at Sichuan University. He has previously worked as a collaborative researcher at the National Institute for Fusion Science (NIFS) in Japan and currently serves as the International Atomic Energy Agency Stellarator-Heliotron TCP Fellow. His research focuses on magnetic field configuration optimization of advanced stellarators, new classical plasma transport, and other related areas. He has led multiple national and provincial-level projects, including three National Natural Science Fund projects, published 22 SCI papers as the first/corresponding author, and delivered invited presentations at important academic conferences six times.
